Homemade Maki

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ dl sushi rice
  • 1 ½ tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 100 g salmon of sashimi quality
  • ¼ x mango
  • ¼ x avocado
  • ⅕ x cucumber
  • ½ x spring onion
  • 2 x nori
  • 1 tbsp pickled ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

Method

  1. Boil the sushi rice according to the instructions on the package, and season with rice vinegar, sugar and salt.
  2. Cut salmon, mango, avocado, cucumber and spring onion into thin strips.
  3. Place nori sheets on a bamboo mat covered with plastic wrap. Cover the nori sheet with sushi rice and press to make the rice as flat as possible. Place pieces of salmon, mango and avocado or salmon, cucumber and spring onion along the short end of the sheet.
  4. Gently fold the nori sheet over the filling using the bamboo mat. Then press inwards to tighten as you roll forward.
  5. Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 6 or 8 pieces.
  6. Serve with soy sauce and pickled ginger!
